Victoria Seals News Release

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Seals are proud to announce that they will be hosting a one-day tryout camp at Royal Athletic Park on the morning of Saturday July 18. Now at the midway point of their inaugural season, the Seals are hoping to get a look at some local talent after the club's original Vancouver Island tryout camp (scheduled for March) was cancelled due to inclement weather. The team's first pre-season tryout camp in Irvine, California led to three players signing a professional contract.

Seals President Darren Parker says he is expecting good results from the capital region, adding that, "historically this area has produced some very skilled ball players. We are excited about the possibility of signing some local talent to a contract."

Victoria field manager Darrell Evans and bench coach Dan DiPace will be facilitating the camp, which begins at 9:00 a.m. on July 18. Those wishing to attend must have previous college or professional experience, and have completed the registration form in advance (available at www.victoriaseals.ca).

Space is limited, and will be filled on a first come, first served basis. The tryout cost is $60, and participants are required to bring their own equipment (gloves, bats, cleats, catcher's gear, etc.). Lunch will not be provided at the ballpark, so it is recommended that participants bring their own.

The Seals and Yuma Scorpions play a double header tonight, with the first of two seven-inning games beginning at 6:00 p.m. (PT). The second contest will immediately follow the series opener, ahead of Thursday's matinee game three at 12:00 p.m. (PT). The game will be broadcast live on 88.1 FM in the ballpark, and streamed online at www.victoriaseals.ca. Get your tickets online now at www.selectyourtickets.com, or by phone at (250) 220-7777.
