
Veteran NHL wingers signs on with Rockford

Rockford, Ill.- Rockford IceHogs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Steve Martinson announced Sunday that the United Hockey League club has signed winger Reid Simpson. Per club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
A National Hockey League veteran, Simpson is a rugged and tough winger that will join veteran defenseman Rod Aldoff as a player assistant coach. Simpson has spent parts of 13 seasons playing with nine different NHL teams. Last season, the veteran winger suited up for the Pittsburgh Penguins for a pair of games and also with the Wilkes Barre-Scranton Penguins.
"He's going to bring a lot of experience and veteran leadership to the club as we approach the playoffs," said Martinson. "He wants to learn the coaching side of hockey, so this will be a good opportunity for him. Milwaukee (Admirals) also has a veteran spot open on their roster and have expressed interest in Reid."
Simpson skated with the Chicago Blackhawks during the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons. In 53 games with the Hawks in 98-99, the Flin Flon, Manitoba native had 5g-4a-9pts to go along with 145 penalty minutes, his top season statistically in the NHL.
Known as a tough guy, Simpson has shown the ability to score when matched-up with other scorers. In 301 NHL games Simpson has accumulated 18g-18a-36pts with 838 PIMs. Overall Simpson has 187 points in 691 professional games. Simpson is expected to be in the line-up Sunday when the IceHogs take on the Elmira Jackals.
Next Home Game: Sunday, March 13 vs. Elmira Jackals. Game time is 1:05 p.m. Catch Reid Simpson's IceHogs debut when the Hogs and Jackals drop the puck for the first and only time this season. Sunday is a Family Four Pack Day, that's four tickets, four hot dogs and four soft drinks for only $40.
Also, the IceHogs will take on the Kansas City Outlaws on Monday, March14 at 7:05 p.m. The game is the contest that was rescheduled from Saturday,April 9. Season ticket holders should use ticket #39 for the game.
