Veteran INF Lucas named Texas League Player of the Week

Infielder Ed Lucas has been named as Texas League Player of the Week for the week of June 29th-July 5th, Texas League President Tom Kayser announced Monday.

Lucas, the 27-year old from Deltona, FL, becomes the third Naturals hitter to win the award in the past five weeks, following fellow infielders Kurt Mertins (June 1st-7th) and Jeff Bianchi (June 22nd-28th).

For the week, the veteran infielder in his second season with the Naturals hit .667 (8-for-12) in five games, batting in two runs, coming around to score six times, and drawing six walks. Lucas is now hitting .304 on the season with three homers and 24 runs batted in over 45 games, while his .382 on-base percentage is second only to outfielder Jordan Parraz amongst regulars in the Naturals' starting lineup. Lucas was an eighth-round selection of the Kansas City Royals in the 2004 draft.

Southpaw Ryan Kulik from the Springfield Cardinals was named as the loop's Pitcher of the Week.
