Veteran Forward Darryl Bootland Returns for 2015-16 Season
July 13, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release
WINDSOR, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles announced Monday that they have re-signed forward Darryl Bootland for the 2015-16 season. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound forward quickly became a fan-favorite in Colorado, amassing 252 penalty minutes, 17 goals and 10 assists in 41 games with the Eagles last season. Bootland is a former 8th round draft pick of the Colorado Avalanche in 2000. The Toronto, Ontario native played 32 games in the NHL with both the Detroit Red Wings and the New York Islanders, netting one goal, two assists and 85 penalty minutes during that time.
"I'm more than excited to be returning to Colorado, it's actually tough to put into words," said Bootland. "The incredible fans, the great community and the outstanding coaching staff made this the only place I wanted to go. Coming up short in Game Seven last year was a tough pill to swallow, but we've learned from it and we're going to come back this season even bigger and better because of it."
In addition to his ECHL and NHL career, Bootland has collected 168 points and 1,480 penalty minutes in 382 games in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins, Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Portland Pirates and Manitoba Moose. Bootland was also instrumental in guiding the Allen Americans to back-to-back championships in the CHL in 2013 and 2014.
"Darryl is a guy who can change the complexion of a game in short-order," said Eagles president and general manager Chris Stewart. "We knew going into last season that he was going to be the kind of player who would be a fundamental piece of what we were trying to accomplish on the ice and in the room and he provided that leadership night-in and night-out."
In total, Bootland returns to Colorado with 429 points and 2,935 penalty minutes in 775 professional games.
