Indy Fuel News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks and the AHL's Rockford IceHogs, signed former NHL defenseman Kevin Quick to an ECHL contract for the 2015-16 season, the team announced Monday. A third-round pick (78th overall) of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Quick scored four goals and 27 points in 60 appearances for the EIHL's Dundee Stars last season.

"Kevin is a proven leader and has been successful at every level of hockey," said Fuel Head Coach and EVP of Hockey Operations Scott Hillman on Monday. "He's won a championship in our league, he's been a captain in our league and has NHL games under his belt...We're confident Kevin will provide us with the veteran presence on the blue line that we lacked last season."

A 6'0", 174 lb. left-handed shooting defenseman from Buffalo, New York, Quick appeared in six games for Tampa Bay during the 2008-09 season, registering one assist. In 176 career AHL games played for the Norfolk Admirals and Rockford IceHogs in parts of six seasons from 2008 to 2013, Quick tallied one goal and 34 total points. In one season of NCAA play for the University of Michigan in 2007-08, Quick helped the Wolverines claim the CCHA regular-season and tournament championships and helped lead Michigan to a berth in the Frozen Four.

In 126 career ECHL games played for the Augusta Lynx, Elmira Jackals, Florida Everblades and South Carolina Stingrays in parts of four seasons from 2009 to 2014, Quick contributed five goals and 37 combined points. Quick served as South Carolina's captain during the 2012-13 and 2013-14 ECHL seasons and helped Florida claim the 2012 Kelly Cup as ECHL Champions.

Quick, 27, says he's thrilled to return to the ECHL with the Fuel next season. "I've heard great things about the arena and the hockey side of things with the Fuel," said Quick on Monday. "Indianapolis sounds like a great city and I look forward to experiencing everything it has to offer." With over 360 professional games already behind him, Quick says he hopes he can be a resource to the Fuel's young players. "Being a pro hockey player is tough, both mentally and physically," said Quick. "I've played at every level and am heading into my eighth year pro...I just hope to be a guy that younger players feel comfortable asking questions and learning from. I'm looking forward to meeting my teammates and having a great year in Indy."

As for his game on the ice, Quick says versatility has been a hallmark of his career. "My strength is my skating ...I try to be a good offensive-minded, puck-moving defenseman and I can play in every situation," explained Quick. "I'm a power-play guy but I also like being the one that the coach relies on when we're killing a five-on-three."

In 2015-16, the Indy Fuel drop the puck on their second season in the ECHL.
