Long Island Ducks News Release

(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 19, 2008) - The Long Island Ducks increased their winning streak to seven on Tuesday with a 2-1 come-from-behind win over the Somerset Patriots before a past-capacity crowd of 6,113 at Citibank Park.

P.J. Rose's RBI double in the eighth inning, his third hit and second two-bagger of the game, completed a two-run rally for the Ducks, that began when Nook Logan led off the inning with a single to left. Logan advanced to third on a stolen base and a wild pitch, and Edgardo Alfonzo singled to drive him home with the tying run. Somerset had broken a scoreless tie in the seventh on a Vito Chiaravalloti home run, but the three consecutive hits by Long Island two innings later catapulted the home team to a season-high 11 games over the .500 mark.

Manny Ulloa tossed five scoreless innings in relief for Long Island, and Ben Grezlovski (4-2) picked up the win, pitching a scoreless eighth. Somerset starter Kip Bouknight threw six innings, surrendering no runs on just four hits. Jason Richardson (8-1) gave up the hits to Logan and Alfonzo in the eighth, was charged with both runs, and absorbed the loss. Charlie Weatherby allowed a one-out double in the ninth but struck out pinch hitter Josh Pressley to notch his second save of the season.

The Ducks conclude their season-long ten night homestand on Wednesday against Somerset. First pitch will take place at 7:05 p.m. Gates open at 6:05 p.m., and the first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Bud Harrelson & Don Dantona Bobbleheads, courtesy of Dantona Industries.
