(Ft. Myers, FL) - A three-run fifth inning lifted the Vero Beach Dodgers to a 5-2 victory over the Ft. Myers Miracle Monday night at Hammond Stadium. David Nicholson drove in two runs and reached base four times to lead the offense. The series continues in Ft. Myers Tuesday night at 7:05 PM.

The big fifth inning began after the first two outs were recorded. Ryder Mathias lined a single to left and Jamie Hoffmann walked against starter Josh Hill (6-4). Eloy Gutierrez then singled to right to score Mathias with a run that put the Dodgers ahead 3-1. Nicholson then beat out an infield single to score one run and a throwing error on the play scored another for a 5-1 lead.

Drew Locke's RBI single in the fourth inning had scored Cory Dunlap to tie the game at one. Nicholson put the Dodgers ahead in the fifth with a double to plate Gutierrez, who finished the night 2-5.

Zach Hammes (6-2) turned in five solid innings during a spot start to become the Dodgers' winningest pitcher. He allowed only one run on five hits and four walks. Marlon Arias, fresh from a callup from Columbus, made his FSL debut and turned in three scoreless relief innings.
