Lowell Spinners News Release

LOWELL, MA - Going into Friday night's game, the Lowell Spinners, proud affiliate of the 2018 World Champion Boston Red Sox, were looking to crack the code of their six-game losing streak and pick up a win in the second of there against the Vermont Lake Monsters, affiliate of the Oakland Athletics.

Following a five-run third inning for the Lake Monsters (24-31), the Spinners (30-23), try as they might, were unable to claw their way back into the game and wound up falling by a final of 5-2 at home in front of a crowd of 3,503 at LeLacheur Park on Friday night.

Before the explosive third inning, Lowell got on the board first in the opening frame when Gilberto Jimenez led the game off with a triple to deep centerfield that one-hopped the center field wall. After Cameron Cannon was called out on strikeouts, Jimenez scored on a wild pitch with Jaxx Groshans at the plate.

In the bottom of the second inning, they kept it going when Marino Campana launched an 0-1 pitch over the centerfield batter's eye for his fifth home run with the Spinners, and seventh on the season as a whole - making 2-0 Lowell, early on.

Ryan Zeferjahn got the start on the mound for the Spinners, and he turned in his best start of his professional career thus far. The third-round selection out of the University of Kansas tossed two shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking one and striking out a season-high five batters before giving way to Kelvin Sanchez who was charged with the loss after allowing all five runners to score.

Robbie Baker followed Sanchez in the third inning and worked some magic out of the bullpen. The second-year player out of Richmond tossed four shutout, no-hit innings, not walking a single batter and striking out seven.

The Spinners are back in action on Saturday evening where they look to avoid the sweep in the conclusion of their three-game set with the Lake Monsters on "Hockey Night" with Bruins' forward Charlie Coyle making an appearance. First pitch is at 5:05 p.m.

The Lowell Spinners, proud affiliate of the 2018 World Champion Boston Red Sox, offer Season Ticket Packages, Mini-Plans, Group Sales, and Single Game Tickets.
