Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY- The Hudson Valley Renegades took advantage of six Tri-City errors in an easy 9-1 win over the ValleyCats Friday evening at Dutchess Stadium in front of 4,709 fans.

The Renegades started the scoring with a five-run second inning. With one out, back-to-back walks put runners at first and second as designated hitter Pedro Diaz annihilated a three-run homer to straightaway centerfield. It was his first blast of the year and gave Hudson Valley a 3-0 lead. Leftfielder K.V. Edwards came up next and lined a single to left. After a walk to shortstop Nick Sogard put runners at first and second, centerfielder Garrett Hiott grounded a single off the glove of Tri-City first baseman Juanrael Paulino. Edwards scored on the play and Sogard raced for third. Hiott would steal second and the throw from ValleyCats catcher C.J. Stubbs went into center to bring in Sogard and make the score 5-0.

The ValleyCats garnered their lone run in the third. Second baseman Luis Santana started the inning with a double to left. After a single from leftfielder Korey Lee to right moved him to third, Renegades starting pitcher Evan McKendry uncorked a wild pitch to bring him in and put Tri-City on the board.

But Hudson Valley would come back with three more runs in the fourth. Third baseman Mason Mallard delivered a one-out single to right then stole second. With two away, Hiott delivered another RBI single; this time a rocket off the glove of Tri-City shortstop A.J. Lee. Hiott again stole second, then came in to score as a grounder to ValleyCats third baseman Bryan Arias off the bat of rightfielder Hill Alexander, was thrown away for a two-base error. First baseman Jacson McGowan stood in next and roped a single to center to plate Alexander and increase the Renegades' lead to 8-1.

The home team picked up their final run in the fifth. Second baseman Ben Troike started the inning with a single to center. Two batters later, he went to second on a fielding error by Arias off the bat of Edwards, then scored on a throwing error by Paulino off the bat of Mallard.

The pitching was again solid for Hudson Valley as McKendry (3-1) got the win by allowing a run on five hits over five innings with six strikeouts. Tri-City starting pitcher Kyle Serrano (0-3) suffered the loss after he allowed five runs on two hits over 1.2 frames with three walks.

The Renegades had nine hits with Hiott going 2-5 with two singles, two RBI and two stolen bases with a run scored. The ValleyCats collected six hits with Lee going 2-4 with two singles.

On a down note, the ValleyCats struck out 15 Renegades hitters.

The Renegades and ValleyCats will go at it in the finale of their four-game series tomorrow with a 6:05 start. A starter has not been named for the Renegades while the ValleyCats will counter with righty Edgardo Sandoval (0-2, 8.36 ERA).
