North Adams SteepleCats News Release
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - After both sides went scoreless through all nine innings of regulation, visiting Vermont edged ahead with a run in the top of the 10th and Patrick Delano made that hold up in the bottom half of the mountain, as North Adams fell for the third straight game, 1-0, to the Mountaineers in extra innings on Wednesday night at Joe Wolfe Field.
Playing in its second extra-innings contest of the year, North Adams (4-6) could not muster the same magic that propelled it to a 6-1, 12-inning win at Holyoke back on June 8, while the Mountaineers (7-2) maintained their hold on first place in the NECBL Western Division by means of their seventh consecutive win.
Neither side could put one across in all nine innings of regulation, including a SteepleCat chance in the bottom of the ninth with runners at second and third with two away. But in the top of the 10th, Bret Dennis hustled out a leadoff single against reliever *Trevor Swaney (Wright State)*and stole second. Then, Mike Triller singled off the glove of third baseman *Bryan Soloman (Eastern Kentucky)* to allow Dennis to score from second, and that would prove to be the difference.
Delano wound up the victor after 3 2/3 scoreless innings out of the 'pen, striking out three and walking one. Swaney was tagged with another tough-luck loss, while both starters tossed gems over their respective outings. For Vermont, Trey Oest lasted 5 1/3 but struck out four and allowed just one hit, while sophomore *Julian Loret de Mola (Nova Southeastern)* dazzled over seven innings, striking out three and walking two in his first start of the year on the mound.
North Adams finished the night with just three hits and stranded six, while Vermont compiled seven base knocks, stranded seven and finished just 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.
The SteepleCats continue a three-game homestand tomorrow (June 20) in a makeup contest against Plymouth. First pitch from Joe Wolfe Field is set for 6:30 p.m.
