Vermont Mountaineers News Release
MONTPELIER, VT. - The Vermont Mountaineers bounced back from a setback with a 7-0 win over the North Shore Navigators at Recreation Field during a New England Collegiate Baseball League cross divisional matchup on Friday night.
Mountaineer's pitcher Maxwell Parker (Le Moyne / Manlius, N.Y.) started the game with a quick and easy three up three down inning and recorded another win through six innings with one hit and eight strikeouts. Vermont answered the Navigator's scoreless inning with a single by Joan Sosa (Fairleigh Dickinson / Bronx, N.Y.) and Christian Pregent (Stetson / Daytona Beach, Fla.) had an RBI to bring Sosa home on a sacrifice fly to left.
After a quick third inning for Parker on the mound, Vermont pushed across three more runs in the home half. Evan Fox (Stony Brook / Ballston Spa, N.Y.) and Ben Williamson (William & Mary / Midlothian, Va.) both came around to score on a drive by Kade Kretzschmar (Cal Poly San Luis Obispo / Carlsbad, Calif.), giving the home team a 4-0 lead.
That's all Parker needed as he retired nine of the next 11 batters he faced.
Vermont scored three more in the sixth with a big one-out single by Stephen DiTomaso (George Washington / Haddonfield, N.J.) and a two-out hit from Gerry Siracusa (UMass Lowell / Kinnelon, N.J.).
Brendan McFall ((Tufts / Oceanside, N.Y.) logged a pair of innings of relief with three strikeouts while Luke Carpenter(Dartmouth / Charlotte, N.C.) punched out three of his own hitters to close out the game.
The Mountaineers improve to 9-1 and will host the Upper Valley Nighthawks in the first game of the Governor's Cup Series at Montpelier Recreation Field on Saturday, June 18. First pitch is set for 6:30 PM.
