Vermont Comes Out on Top Over Blue Sox

July 2, 2022 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Vermont Mountaineers News Release

Montpelier, VT - Vermont won their twenty-first game of the season by a score of fifteen to ten tonight against the Valley Blue Sox.

The mountaineers had one of the longest and most interesting games of their season tonight in the matchup against the Blue Sox. We saw a little bit of everything tonight in the win for Vermont. Vermont scored runs in the first, second, fourth, fifth, and eighth inning as the bats came alive in almost every inning.

The bats were hot for almost everyone tonight but a few players came to the spotlight for Vermont. Evan Fox (Stony Brook University, Ballston Spa, New York) had two hits, drove in two runs, and scored three different times in four at-bats tonight. Gerry Siracusa (Massachusetts Lowell U of, Kinnelon, New Jersey) was also a big help in the win. Siracusa had a double, triple, four RBIs, and scored three times on four hits. The two hitters combined for six total runs and drove in seven.

Tonight's game lasted just over three and a half hours as a total of twenty-five runs crossed the plate between both teams. The Blue Sox scored runs in the second, fourth, fifth, sixth, and the ninth inning including multiple rallies but would fall short by five runs.

The pitching was plentiful tonight as Vermont threw a total of six pitchers and the Blue Sox threw three of their own. Mitchell Pascarella ( Connecticut U of, Lakewood, NY) got the win tonight for Vermont going two and two-thirds, with three strikeouts only allowing one hit and no runs.

Valley's Connor Bailey (Xavier U, Medina, Ohio) was given the loss going one and two-thirds, allowing four runs on three hits and two strikeouts.

Tom Ruscitti (Fairleigh Dickinson University, Bayville, New Jersey) put Vermont out of reach with a deep three-run blast in the eighth to give Vermont their fifteen to ten lead, headed into the ninth inning.

Vermont improves to twenty-one and two on the year with the win tonight. They will head back to Upper Valley for the second matchup in three days with the in-state rival. Vermont leads the Governor's Cup race two games to none and could get one game closer to winning this year's cup with a win tomorrow. Make sure to tune in tomorrow and catch all the action live on the NECBL broadcast network.
