Bakersfield Condors News Release
LAS VEGAS - The Las Vegas Wranglers snapped a tie score with a pair of goals in the third period to defeat the Bakersfield Condors 3-1 in front of 3,118 fans at Orleans Arena Tuesday night. The series is now knotted up at 3-3, and a decisive Game 7 matchup up slated for Wednesday night at Orleans Arena. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
For the first time in the series, the first period featured no goals and no penalties. Bakersfield went with G Yutaka Fukufuji between the pipes, while the Wranglers countered with G Glenn Fisher, their starter for Games 1 and 2 of the series. Vegas held a narrow lead in shots in the period, 10-9.
Bakersfield drew first blood on the scoreboard in the second stanza. D Ryan Mahrle redirected home a lofted shot by C Dave Bonk for his first of the post-season at 5:53. The Wranglers evened it up later in the period, however, with a power play goal by D Dan Spang at 18:04. Shots were 15-10 in the period in favor of Vegas.
The Wranglers had the only goals of the third frame. F J.D. Watt redirected a shot from the point on the power play to break the tie with the eventual game winner. LW Dan Riedel added some insurance at 5:44 with his third of the playoffs. Fisher handled the rest. He made 12 saves in the third and 30 in the game to earn his second victory of the post-season.
Game 7 coming up Wednesday:
Game 7 will be Wednesday night from Las Vegas, a 7:30 p.m. start. The Condors are 1-1 all-time in Game 7's, and with this season's appearance will tie the ECHL record for most Game 7's in league history (Cincinnati appeared in their third as well, Monday night). Both of the Condors Game 7's were in 2006, the only time that a team has played two of them in one playoff season. Las Vegas won their only Game 7 in team history, also in 2006.
Should the Condors move on to the next round, Game 1, regardless of opponent, will be in Condorstown on Friday, April 24 at 7 p.m.
