Reno Aces News Release
New Orleans, LA - The Aces were held in check in game one in the Big Easy. Tyler Cloyd took a perfect game into the seventh inning but had it wrecked by an Ildemaro Vargas double. Vargas' double in the top of the seventh inning extended his season-long hit streak to 22 games. The loss brings Reno to a record of 50-52 on the season with 38 games remaining on the 2018 regular season schedule.
New Orleans plated three runs off Aces starter Jake Buchanan in the bottom of the second inning. Cristhian Adames got the inning started with a single to leadoff the inning. Austin Nola and Peter Mooney loaded the bases with a hit-by-pitch and a single into center field. Cloyd helped his own cause with a two-run double off the base of the wall to give New Orleans a 2-0 lead. Austin Dean plated the final run off the inning with a line drive to score Mooney. Reno wouldn't respond until the top of the seventh inning. Vargas broke up Cloyd's perfect game with a double over third base. Rey Fuentes moved him over to third with a deep fly ball to right field and Christian Walker brought him in with a grounder to second. Unfortunately for Reno, that was the only offense of the evening as the Baby Cakes took game one by a score of 4-1.
