
Vancouver offense clicks against Volcanoes in 8-2 victory on Fourth of July

(Volcanoes Stadium - Keizer, OR) - A five run top of the 3rd inning was capped off by 1B Jordan Leyland's first professional home run, a three-run blast that helped Vancouver to a convincing 8-2 rout of the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes on Wednesday night.
All nine Canadians reached base in the offensive outburst including 3B Kellen Sweeney who hit his first home run as a Vancouver Canadians in the top of the 1st inning that plated SS Jorge Flores as part of a two-run inning. Along with Sweeney, LF Matt Newman was a force going 1-for-1 with three walks and a run scored.
LHP Colton Turner got some defensive support to help him get through his five innings of work for his second win of the summer. The Texas State University graduate scattered eight hits and allowed two earned runs in the bottom of the 5th inning when he walked the bases loaded and then gave up a single to C Dashenko Ricardo who was the lone bright spot for Salem-Keizer going 3-for-4 in the loss.
The Canadians improve to 12-7 (.632) on the season and move to within 2 1/2 games of West Division leading Everett (15-5) who lost on Wednesday night in Eugene. Vancouver has 19 games remaining in the first half to try and claim the Northwest League's first half West Division pennant.
