The Vancouver Giants finished off the weekend in impressive fashion defeating the Chilliwack Bruins 7-3 Sunday night at the Pacific Coliseum. The Giants picked up all 6 points available thanks to a 3 game sweep of Prince George, Kamloops, and Chilliwack.
Vancouver was ready from the opening whistle rattling off shot after shot at Lucas Gore. In fact they racked up 21 shots in the first frame, tallying 3 goals. The scoring started at the 4:31 mark with Andrej Stastny potting his 4th of the season. Later on in the period the Giants would score two quick highlight reel goals, starting with Brendan Gallagher on the power play for his 30th of the year. Gallagher's beauty was followed up by another electrifying goal 56 seconds later as Michael Burns recorded his 9th of the campaign to put Vancouver up 3-0 after 20 minutes. The shots in the period were 21-1 in favour of the home team.
The domination continued in the 2nd period as the Giants added another 3 goals. Stastny ripped home his 2nd of the game and 5th of the season to put Vancouver in front 4-0. Brendan Gallagher then scored an even strength marker and a shorthanded goal to pick up the hat trick and give him 31 goals on the season. The Giants led 6-0 through 40 mintues.
Jordan Martinook would add another on a great individual effort in the third period for his 8th of the year. That would round out the scoring for Vancouver. Chilliwack would score 3 late ones to make the score respectable. 7-3 was the final. Mark Segal played the first 50 minutes giving up 2 goals on 13 shots, while Brendan Jensen got some mop up time allowing 1 goal on 3 shots. With the win the Giants have now won 4 straight games and 9 of their last 11.
