Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Avista Stadium - Spokane, WA) - After jumping out to an early lead, the Vancouver Canadians watched Spokane's offense explode for 10 runs en route to a convincing 10-3 victory on Friday night in front of a sold out Fourth of July crowd announced at 7,064 fans.
Canadians RHP Justin Shafer ran into trouble in the bottom of the 3rd inning shortly after being handed a 1-0 lead as the Indians pounced on the Florida Gator grad for four runs before he left the game with upper body tightness. Spokane 3B Jose Trevino was the catalyst with a three-run home run, his first of two on the night.
Vancouver would score runs in the 4th and 5th inning to bring the game back to within a run as 1B Ryan McBroom and 2B Tim Locastro had RBI base hits but the Indians offense was just too dominant.
In the bottom of the 5th inning, Spokane struck for three more runs to grab a 7-3 lead as C Marcus Greene tagged a two-run double off of Canadians reliever RHP Mark Biggs. The bottom of the 6th didn't fare much better as DH Juremi Profar smacked a base-hit off of RHP Alberto Tirado to extend the Indians lead to 10-3, which would be the final.
With the loss, Vancouver (13-9) falls three full games back of Spokane who improve to 16-6 through 22 regular season games with these two teams matching up again on Saturday, July 5th at 6:35pm with RHP Miguel Castro getting the ball for the Canadians.
