BOISE, Idaho - Franchy Cordero went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBI, helping the Eugene Emeralds improve to 4-0 this season against the Boise Hawks, winning 7-1 at Memorial Stadium before 3,704 fans.
Cordero tied the game at 1-1 in the sixth inning with an RBI single, then scored the go-ahead run on a two-run Nick Torres double, as the Ems pulled into sole possession of second place in the Northwest League South Division.
Marcus Davis extended the lead to 5-1 in the eighth with a long two-run homer, before Cordero capped the scoring with an opposite field two-run blast in the ninth.
Five Eugene relievers held the Hawks to just four singles to close out the game - as Ems hurlers combined for 13 strikeouts in the victory.
Game 2 of the three-game series is tomorrow night, with Trevor Graham meeting Michael Kelly at 7:15 p.m.
