Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Kamloops, BC - The Edmonton Oil Kings led through two periods of play but were unable to close out the WHL's top team as they fell 3-2 to the Kamloops Blazers on Wednesday night. The much anticipated battle between the top two teams in the WHL was a back and forth affair. Edmonton carried a 2-0 lead into the third period on the strength of goals from Oiler draft pick Kristians Pelss and 20 year old Jordan Peddle.
But for the first time this season the Oil Kings suffered a regulation loss after taking a lead into the third as Kamloops was able to rally for three unanswered goals. Matt Needham tallied with only a minute left to play in regulation as the Blazers extended their lead to five points atop the WHL standings with the comeback victory.
The Oil Kings penalty kill was 1 for 4 on the night while the Blazers did not take a penalty. Oil Kings goaltender Laurent Brossoit made 35 saves in a losing cause. The Oil Kings still remain alone atop the Eastern Conference standings with a record of 37-13-3-4 for 81 points as they continue this B.C. road trip.
