Valdez Pitches Bees to Third Straight Win

The Salt Lake Bees picked up their third consecutive win with a 6-3 victory over the Las Vegas Aviators on Friday night. The Bees grabbed the lead in the second inning, as Dillon Thomas singled. Two outs later, Magneuris Sierra singled and Chad Wallach followed with an opposite field three run homer to right field for a 3-0 lead. After Las Vegas plated a run in the fifth, the Bees picked up a pair of runs in the seventh on a two run double by Jose Rojas, who has now driven in a run in ten consecutive games. Jack Mayfield would close out the scoring with an RBI double in the ninth inning.

Salt Lake starter Cesar Valdez (6-4) earned his first win in his last seven starts, as he went six innings and allowed just one run on six hits with seven strikeouts and one walk for his seventh quality start of the season. Gerardo Reyes fanned the final three batters in the ninth to record his fifth save of the season. In all, five Bees pitchers combined to strike out sixteen Aviators. Wallach led the Bees with two hits and three runs batted in, while Rojas added two hits and two RBI.
