Montreal Juniors News Release
MONTREAL, OCTOBER 17, 2010 - Despite two and a half periods of dominance, the Val D'Or Foreurs used three goals over a span of four minutes in the third to shock Montreal and hand the Juniors their third loss of the season, a 4-2 defeat on Sunday afternoon at the Verdun Auditorium.
With the loss, Montreal's record dropped to 7-3-2-1.
Louis Leblanc's hot hand from Friday night continued early on Sunday as a goal and an assist in the first period gave Montreal a quick two goal lead. Leblanc served as the supporting cast for Nicholas Chouinard's opening goal, his seventh of the season, and he then found the score sheet on his own with his sixth goal of the year. Leblanc's two points pushed his total to 14 on the season, one point behind Xavier Ouellet's team leading 15.
Val D'Or's resilience was on display in the second period as they made the most of the opportunities handed to them to cut the score in half. Fortunately for Montreal, Olivier Archambault's sixth goal of the year was the only marker of the period, ensuring that their lead remained intact.
Building on their second period momentum, with just over four minutes to play, Val D'Or's Guillaume Naud took it upon himself to score both the tying and game-winning goals. With Montreal fighting to respond, Thierry Comtois took advantage of an odd man rush and notched his second goal of the year, an insurance marker which secured a 4-2 victory for the Foreurs.
The Juniors will play again on Wednesday, October 20th at 7:05pm at the Verdun Auditorium, when they face off against the PEI Rockets.
