Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - The Lewiston MAINEiacs and Baie-Comeau Drakkar had a defensive battle going for most of Sunday afternoon's game. However, with the score tied at one in the third, Lewiston's offense took control, scoring four times in the final 6:36, knocking off the Drakkar 5-2 in front of 1,474 fans at the Centre Henry Leonard.
For the second straight game, the Drakkar capitalized on a slow start by Lewiston. Frederick Gamelin deflected Alexandre Chenevert's shot through Nicholas Champion for a 1-0 lead for the home team. However, the MAINEiacs evened up the score in the final minute of the first period. Cameron Critchlow tossed a pass across the ice to an oncoming Olivier Dame-Malka, who drilled a slap shot off of the post and in.
After a scoreless second period, the MAINEiacs came alive in a big way in the third. With Jean-Philippe Caron in the penalty box serving a double-minor, Lewiston got two goals for the price of one penalty. Etienne Brodeur drove the net and jammed in the first goal, before Stefan Fournier buried the second power play marker from the side of the crease. Brodeur added another goal less than two minutes later, and the teams exchanged goals by Marc-Olivier Mimar and Pierre-Olivier Morin for a 5-2 final in favor of the visitors.
Nicholas Champion earned the win with 18 saves on 20 shots, defeating Jason Missiaen, who allowed five goals on 27 shots in the loss.
The MAINEiacs return home to the Androscoggin Bank Colisee on Wednesday night for a 7:00 face-off against the Shawinigan Cataractes.
