Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

DUBUQUE, IA - Fighting Saints defenseman Joona Väisänen has been named USHL Defenseman of the Week for his performance against Chicago last weekend.

In Saturday's win over the Steel, Väisänen scored and added an assist in the first period to help the Saints to an early lead they never surrendered.

Väisänen had a plus-2 rating as well in the win on Saturday and has earned weekly accolades for the second time this season. Väisänen is the third Saints defenseman to win the award in as many weeks, following Lucas St. Louis and Fisher Scott.

Overall, Väisänen has nine goals and 30 assists for 39 points. Only three defensemen in the USHL have more points than the Saints' Western Michigan commit.

Väisänen is also one of eight players in the league overall with a +30 rating or better, reaching the +30 mark with his performance on Saturday night.

Väisänen and the Saints are back in action on Friday when they host the Waterloo Black Hawks in their penultimate game of the regular season.
