Utica Blue Sox News Release

UTICA: The Blue Sox rallied from two down to beat the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs 3-2 and go back to .500 (12-12).

In the bottom ninth, pinch hitter Luis DeLeon and centerfielder Cameron Phelts both singled. Coco Hussien later doubled to bring DeLeon and Phelts home and tie the game 2-2. Hussien advanced to third off of a single from Brenton Phillips, and then he scored the Blue Sox's game winning run off of an error from the Diamond Dawgs' third baseman Alexis Monge-Rodriguez.

JT Gosweiler got the win only giving up two hits and one run in one inning of play. Utica's starting pitcher Blaise Lomon also had a good night on the mound striking out eight, walking two, and giving up three hits in his six innings of play.

Hussien did a good job at the plate recording two hits, two RBIs, and scoring one run. Phelts also recorded two hits and scored one run.

The Diamond Dawgs scored their first run in the top first when Joseph Castellano advanced to first after being hit by a pitch, moved up to third off of a single from Ryan Hernandez, and reached home plate off of a wild pitch. Mohawk Valley put up one more run in the top ninth when Monge-Rodriguez singled and later scored off of another single from Ryan Toohers.

The Dawgs could not hold onto their lead in the bottom ninth and fall to 13-9 this year.

Diamond Dawgs' pitcher Alexis Calderon got the loss. He walked one, gave up four hits, and allowed three runs to score in the bottom ninth.

Utica will be on the road tomorrow to play Adirondack, and then they will return home Tuesday to once again play the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs. Tuesday's game is scheduled to start at 6:35 p.m.
