Saugerties Stallions News Release
SAUGERTIES, N.Y. - On Sunday, the Saugerties Stallions defeated the Glens Falls Dragons 7-5, at Cantine Field in Saugerties, N.Y.
The Dragons jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after Nick Kondo (Albany) and Brian Hart (Marist) walked and came around to score in the first inning. Tyler Kelder (St. Bonaventure) answered with a 3-run home run to give the Stallions a 3-2 lead and the momentum.
The Stallions continued to add insurance runs as Darius Foster (Oregon State) hit his first home run of the season to extend the Stallion lead to 4-2 in the second inning. In the third inning Cameron Comer (University of Virginia) hit a lead-off double and scored on an RBI double from Kelder.
It was all zeroes until the sixth inning when the Stallions added to their lead. Kelder led off the inning with a double and Derek Ripp (Arkansas) reached first base after being hit by a pitch. Andrew Taft (LeMoyne College) hit an RBI single to score Kelder from second and a ground ball from Herman Alvarado (Nyack) scored Ripp.
In the ninth inning, Anthony Vaglica (LIU Post) lead off with a double to spark a late rally for the Dragons. Phoenix Hernandez (Southern New Hampshire) and Kondo each had an RBI single and Hart hit a sacrifice fly to score Nate Cobb (Malone). The Dragons rally fell short as reliever Trey Hinkle (Bloomsburg) retired the three batters he faced.
Max Hunter (Dartmouth) picked up the win while Kyle Cutler (Johnson and Wales) took the loss. Hinkle earned his second save in three appearances.
The Dragons have a day off before heading to Amsterdam to take on the Mohawks at Shuttleworth Park. The Stallions take on the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs tomorrow night at home.
