Mohawks pillage Dutchmen to Take Sole Possession of East Division

The Mohawks took advantage of another stellar outing by Peyton Plumlee (Miss. St.) to take down the Albany Dutchmen by the score of 7-3 at Shuttleworth Park on Friday night. The win propels the Mohawks into sole possession of 1st place in the PGCBL East division at 11-9, 1 game ahead of the Dutchmen, who fall to 9-9.

Plumlee (Miss. St.) was the star of the game for the Mohawks, going 6.0 innings, giving up no runs on 3 hits, walking 3 and striking out 6. Those strikeouts put his season total at 38, good for 1st in the PGCBL. Albany starter Deaven Phillips (Tampa) went 5.1 innings, giving up 4 runs (2 ER) on 8 hits, walking none and striking out 3.

Joe Genord (South Florida) went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, while Michael Ludowig (Wake Forest) went 3-for-4 with an RBI, awalk and 2 runs scored to lead the Mohawks. Golston Gillespie (Ole Miss) went 2-for-2 with a walk, a home run and a run scored for Albany in the loss.

The contest stayed scoreless until the bottom of the 3rd, when Chris Lanzilli (Wake Forest) scored on a sacrifice fly by Jake Hammon (Morehead St.), and Richie Barrella plated a pair on a 2-RBI single to give the Mohawks a 3-0 lead.

Amsterdam would add another run in the bottom of the 5th on an RBI single by Ben Rhodes (Herkimer) to extend their lead to 4-0.

Albany would finally break through in the top of the 7th, when Golston Gillespie hit a solo home run to b=make the score 4-1 in favor of Amsterdam. However, the Mohawks would respond with an RBI single by Joe Genord to retake a 4-run lead over the Dutchmen.

Albany would pick up their second run of the game on a sacrifice fly by Cam Masterman (Louisville) in the top of the 8th, but the Mohawks would storm back in the bottom half of the inning, scoring 2 runs on an RBI triple by Elvis Peralta Jr. (Marshall) and an RBI single by Mike Ludowig.

Cam Collett (Marshall), a former Mohawk, hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the 9th to make it 7-3, but the Dutchmen couldn't muster anymore support.

The win goes to Plumlee, while the loss goes to Deaven Phillips. There was no save, but Ryan Falls came on to pitch 2 innings of scoreless relief for Amsterdam to end it.

The Mohawks travel to Dameschke Field tomorrow to take on the Oneonta Outlaws, before returning home on Sunday to once again play the Outlaws, with Shuttleworth Park hosting Parkfest along with post-game fireworks, gametime is scheduled for 6:35 PM. The Dutchmen will return home to Siena Field to take on the Glens Falls Dragons, with that game slated to start at 5:05 PM.
