
Stallions Fall to Dutchmen at Cantine

SAUGERTIES, N.Y.- The Albany Dutchmen defeat the Saugerties Stallions 4-1 at Cantine Field Friday night.
Early into the contest, The Stallion right-handed pitcher Alex Canney started strong after retiring nine of 10 batters he faced in the first three innings.
The bats for Saugerties were creating contact with four hits in four innings. Alongside with those four hits, nine batters either grounded our or flew out, starting to catch on to right-handed pitcher Danny Kelleher of Albany.
In the fourth inning, the scoring would kickstart with two outs in the bottom of the fourth. Left fielder Garrison Berkley sent a home run over the left field wall to give the Stallions a 1-0 lead.
The Dutchmen would counter with two runs in the top of the fifth inning when third baseman Nick Plue hit a ground-rule double to score shortstop Tyler Young and second baseman David Silva Jr. singled to score extra hitter Max Gebauer to have Albany go up 2-1.
The scoring would continue for Albany in the seventh inning as the Dutchmen plated two more runs on an RBI double by Plue to score Gebauer and a steal home by Plue to score, giving Albany a 4-1 lead in the top of the seventh inning.
After the fourth inning for Saugerties, the bats had a hard time getting a hit, as the Stallions could not get on base for four straight innings. The team managed to break the drought in the ninth inning as extra hitter Kip Fougerousse lead off the bottom of the ninth inning with a leadoff walk.
The latter of the hitters proceeded to go down in order, giving the 4-1 win to the Dutchmen.
Saugerties utilized five different pitchers, with four of them throwing one inning each. Canney was the only pitcher to extend his outing past one inning by going 5.0 innings pitched with two earned runs on six hits, one walk and three strikeouts.
Saugerties falls to 24-17-2 on the season as they travel to Keenholts Park Saturday night to take on the Albany Dutchmen for a second straight day. Coverage starts at 6:35 p.m., with all the action on the Saugerties Stallions YouTube channel.
