Utah Royals FC Begins 3-Match Road Trip in San Diego
May 7, 2024 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Utah Royals FC News Release
HERRIMAN, Utah - Utah Royals FC (1-5-1, 4 pts, 14th NWSL) face San Diego Wave FC (2-3-1, 7 pts, 10th NWSL) this Wednesday at Snapdragon Stadium at 8:00 p.m. MT.
The Royals hit the road for the first of a three-match road stint where they will face San Diego Wave FC, Chicago Red Stars, and North Carolina Courage, respectively. Last Friday, they played host to Angel City FC, who were making their first ever trip to Utah. The match ended in a 2-1 loss for the home side, despite the Royals generating more shots (13-5) and more shots on goal (8-4).
Dutch midfielder Dana Foederer found the back of the net for the Royals, receiving a pass from rookie starlet Ally Sentnor, but the goal was ultimately not enough to earn any points. Foederer's goal marked the first time a Dutch player has scored in the NWSL since 2016 (Manon Mellis, Seattle Reign FC). Sentnor now has four goal contributions as a pro, just seven matches into her maiden NWSL season.
Utah conceded just five shots against ACFC, the lowest mark so far this season, so despite the struggles on the offensive side, the defense is starting to come together into a cohesive unit.
