High Point-Thomasville HiToms News Release
HIGH POINT-THOMASVILLE, N.C. - Finch Field, the home ballpark of the High Point-Thomasville HiToms of the Coastal Plain League, will play host to another international contest in 2014, as the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team will square off against the Japanese Collegiate All-Stars on Sunday, July 6. It will be the Collegiate National Team's second visit to Finch Field this summer, as they are slated to play the HiToms on Monday, June 23, as part of their seven-game tour through the CPL.
"The HiToms organization is truly honored to have such a significantly important international game played in the greater High Point area," said HiToms President Greg Suire. "Through its 75-plus years, Finch Field has played host to numerous historic baseball moments and July 6th will prove to be one of the most significant events in its history. It's going to be a night you can't miss."
"Being selected to host such a high-profile international fixture is a tremendous privilege for our organization," added HiToms GM Nick Gaski. "Each team has immensely talented players, and we're beyond excited to offer this unique event to the baseball fans in our community."
The July 6th game between USA Baseball and Japan's Collegiate All-Stars is a part of the USA-Japan Friendship Series. As this is the first game of the Series' CPL swing, both teams will visit Historic Fleming Stadium, home of the Wilson Tobs, on Monday, July 7 and Buck Hardee Field, home to the Wilmington Sharks, on Tuesday, July 8.
"Finch Field has served the game of baseball for many years and we are glad to make two stops in 2014 to continue the history," said Eric Campbell, USA Baseball's General Manager of National Teams. "The fans on July 6 will see a great brand of baseball from both USA and Japan. The players on the field will move on to great professional careers both in the USA and in Japan."
First pitch time, ticket sales and other information will be released in the coming weeks.
