United Makes Roster Moves

CHANTILLY, VA (January 30, 2004) - D.C. United announced that M Devin Barclay has been traded to the Columbus Crew in exchange for future considerations. Barclay, who was obtained in a 2003 trade with the San Jose Earthquakes, made three appearances for the Black-and-Red, with one start.

"This move will present a good opportunity for Devin and we wish him the best of luck with the Crew," said United Technical Director Dave Kasper.

The 20-year-old Annapolis, MD native has registered three goals and two assists in 38 overall league appearances (15 starts) in his three-year MLS career with Tampa Bay, San Jose and D.C. As a rookie, Barclay scored three goals and added two assists in 23 games with the Mutiny. The Nike Project-40 signee was originally acquired by Tampa Bay in the second round (14th overall) of the 2001 SuperDraft before being selected 9th overall by the Earthquakes in the MLS Allocation Draft in January 2002.

United also announced that D Galin Ivavov will not have his contract renewed for the 2004 MLS season. Ivanov also joined United last season after spending the previous six years with CSKA Sofia in his native Bulgaria. Ivanov served up an assist to his countryman Hristo Stoichkov against the Revolution on 9/21 to tie the match at 1-1. He scored on a header against Chicago on 7/12, helping D.C. to a second straight road win. Overall, Ivanov appeared in 24 MLS matches last season, making 22 starts.
