
Union Advance to MLS Cup Final for the First Time in Franchise History

CHESTER, Pa. - Philadelphia Union hosted New York City FC Sunday night at Subaru Park in the Eastern Conference final of the Audi 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs, winning 3-1. With the win, the Union advance to the MLS Cup final for the first time in club history. The first half saw both sides scoreless with goalkeepers Andre Blake and Sean Johnson both posting a save to keep the match even. Early into the second half, midfielder Maximiliano Moralez opened the scoring in the 57th minute. Shortly after, Union defender Jakob Glesnes connected a long through ball to forward Julian Carranza, who put his right footed shot into the back of the net in the 65th minute. Instantly after, in the 67th minute, forward Julian Carranza's header found midfielder Daniel Gazdag, who made a dashing run into the six-yard box and finished his right footed shot. The third and final goal of the night came from forward Cory Burke, his left footed shot from the centre of the box found the top left corner of the net in the 76th minute of play. Goalkeeper Andre Blake posted a late game save to protect the lead and secure the win to advance to the MLS Cup final for the first time in franchise history. Tonight's match marked the largest crowd in Subaru Park history.
The Union are back on the road to play LAFC at Banc of California Stadium on Saturday, November 5th (4:00 p.m. ET) in the MLS Cup final. (FOX, UniMas)
