Austin Bruins News Release

BISMARCK, N.D. - A big first period for the Bismarck Bobcats proved to be all they needed to drop the Bruins, 3-0, despite the Bruins outshooting Bismarck, 40-27.

The Bruins came out with some vigor to start the game on Saturday, but it was Bismarck who struck first. Team captain Jacob Marti scored his first goal of the season off a rebound to the slot, giving the Bobcats the 1-0 lead. A little over four minutes later, Willy Stauber would increase the lead to 2-0 off a fluke goal. His dump-in attempt from the blue line found it's way on goal. Bruins netminder Jaxon Friedman attempted to swat it in the corner, but the puck got hung up on his stick and shot into the back of the net. The Bobcats weren't done yet as they added their third and final goal of the night only forty seconds later off the stick of Adam Stacho, his first of the season. Following the goal, Head Coach Steve Howard opted for a change at goaltender, inserting Tyler Shea in place of Friedman.

In the second period, the Bruins managed to outshoot the Bobcats as they had done in the first, but Bismarck goalie Ryan Miller proved to be too difficult for Austin to solve.

In the third, the Bruins had three power-play opportunities but despite good puck movement and ample chances, Miller held his ground and didn't surrender a tally. On the other side of the ice, Tyler Shea turned aside every shot he saw as well, including a barrage of rebound chances late in the third period. Despite his efforts, the damage had already been done and the Bobcats earned the victory, their seventh straight, while the Bruins dropped their fourth in a row.

Austin is back in action, this time at home, on Wednesday, October 23 at 7:05 P.M. The black-and-gold welcome their division rivals, the Minnesota Wilderness to Riverside Arena for a midweek battle. Tickets for Wednesday night's game are available now at all the Bruins vendors including Games People Play, Hy-Vee, Holiday Inn, and Jim's Marketplace. All students get FREE admission with the purchase of an adult or senior ticket.
