Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
SHREVEPORT, La. - The Corpus Christi IceRays fell 2-0 to the Shreveport Mudbugs Saturday night inside George's Pond at Hirsch Memorial Coliseum. Richie Parent recorded his first career NAHL shutout with 24 saves for the Mudbugs (9-5-0-0, 18 pts.). With the two-game weekend sweep of the IceRays (8-5-1-2, 19 pts.), Shreveport now sits one point back of Corpus Christi in the South Division standings.
Tim Khokhlachev scored the game-winning tally for Shreveport on a one-timer at 5:26 of the second period. Khokhlachev's goal was just the second power play goal given up by the IceRays in 46 times shorthanded this season.
The IceRays fired 15 shots on net in the third period, including while netminder Cal Sandquist was pulled for an extra attacker, but were unable to find the back of the net. Conor Witherspoon added an empty-net goal for the Mudbugs with 4.5 seconds remaining to seal the victory.
The Mudbugs outshot the IceRays by a 28-24 margin. Corpus Christi went 0-for-4 on the power play.
The IceRays return home for a two-game set Oct. 25-26 against the Topeka Pilots at the American Bank Center. Saturday, Oct. 26 is the annual Pink Out game; fans are encouraged to wear pink to the arena in support of breast cancer awareness.
