Columbus Crew SC News Release

COLUMBUS - The Columbus Crew (3-0-0, 9 points) returns home for the first of three Trillium Cup matches, presented by Scotts, when the club faces Toronto FC (2-1-0, 6 points) on Saturday, April 5 at 6:00 p.m. ET. Time Warner Cable SportsChannel is televising the game, with Dwight Burgess, Chris Doran and Ashleigh Ignelzi on the call. Neil Sika is set to describe the action for 95.5 The Game alongside John Bluem, with Carlos Cordova and Juan Valladares behind the microphone for La Mega 103.1 FM.

The Crew is coming off a 2-1 victory at Seattle Sounders FC on March 29, which extended a club-record three-consecutive wins to start a season. Justin Meram's goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time completed the come-from-behind victory. Now back in Columbus, the Crew is looking to start the season 2-0-0 at home for the first time since 2010 after defeating Philadelphia, 2-1, in Crew Stadium's Opening Match on March 22.

Saturday's match against Toronto marks the 20th overall regular-season meeting between the two clubs dating back to 2007. The Black & Gold begin a quest to secure the Trillium Cup for the sixth time in seven years. The last time the two teams faced each other, the Crew won 2-0, marking the 10th overall win against the Reds. The Crew has been dominant against Toronto FC with an overall series record of 10-2-7, including a 7-1-2 record in Columbus.

Federico Higuain has scored three goals and recorded two assists in just three matches thus far in 2014. In five previous meetings against Toronto, Higuain posted five goals and added two assists on just seven shots on the Reds' goal.

Entering the weekend, the Crew leads MLS in goals per 90 minutes played (2.33 goals per game), having strung together three consecutive matches of multiple-goal efforts. Defensively, the Black & Gold are also co-League leaders as the Crew has allowed just two goals in 270 minutes and its 0.67 goals against average is tied with the Houston Dynamo for tops in MLS.
