Intelligent Trapp Provides Timely Assist
April 4, 2014 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Columbus Crew SC News Release
Wil Trapp is an Ohio guy, and locals take care of their own.ÃÂ
ÃÂ
Enter Ohio attorney Scott Wolff, looking to help give his son a bit of extra motivation to keep his focus as the school year winds to a close. With summer, warm Crew Stadium nights and fun ever-so-tantalizingly on the horizon, Wolff needed his child to buckle-down and finish strong. Yet, for any child, the same sermons from parents tend to become filtered broken records. Wolff saw that his 11-year-old son gravitated to Trapp as a young idol and decided to try something on a whim. ÃÂ
"I started thinking maybe he'd listen to someone that was much, much cooler and smarter than his dad," said Wolff.
ÃÂ
"He's a big fan of Wil Trapp, and I thought why not reach out?"
Wolff tweeted at Trapp, simply asking for a word of advice for his son. He admits he's never tweeted at anyone before, let alone a professional athlete half his age. To his amazement, Wolff quickly realized he had a new notification on his phone.ÃÂ
ÃÂ
Trapp took care of his own.ÃÂ
ÃÂ
"About 20 minutes later my phone starts vibrating," said Wolff. "My wife and I look at each other, grab the phone, and just sat there in amazement at the response."ÃÂ
ÃÂ
Said Wolff, "Frankly, I didn't expect a response, and had he not responded it wouldn't have bothered me.ÃÂ But the fact that he did?ÃÂ A really, really cool thing to do."
"This is really the type of thing that makes me a Crew/MLS fan. The player/fan interaction and customer service provided by the team are outstanding.ÃÂ My kids really think that these players are their friends or something, which is nice."ÃÂ
ÃÂ
Wolff and his family plan to be at Saturday's Trillium Cup meeting, presented by Scotts,ÃÂ as the Crew takes on Toronto FC (6:00 p.m. ET / Time Warner Cable SportsChannel).
Something tells us Wolff's son will have his homework done on time before kickoff.ÃÂ
