Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

The Texas Summer League has placed three players with professional baseball teams in its first week of operations.

James Simpson and Kenta Nishii have signed with the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, while reliever Byran Kloppe has signed with the Edinburg Roadrunners.

Simpson, a shortstop, was 2 for 7 with four walks in the three games he played in the TSL and displayed fine defensive skills at shortstop, most notably when turning double plays. The 23-year-old Miami native was a star at Felician.

Nishii is a 6-3, 210-pound lefthanded slugger from Wakayama, Japan. The 24-year-old was 3 for 8 in TSL competition with two RBIs. He played in the final three games for the WhiteWings in Fort Worth, batting cleanup and playing at third base in Rio Grande Valley's 8-1 loss to the Cats on Saturday.

Kloppe pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings and was the winning pitcher in the first TSL game of the season. A submarine righthander, Kloppe was named Manhattan (Kan.) Christian's "Fireman of the Year" three times and once threw a no-hitter against Dordt.
