Harlingen, Texas- The Edinburg Roadrunners (27-29) used a nine run inning to slug their way past the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings(28-27) 13-4 Sunday night at Harlingen field.
In the top of the third inning Edinburg pounded the Wings with nine runs on nine hits. Three players had multiple hits for Edinburg, with the Roadrunners sending 16 batters to the plate.
Dan Coury hit two doubles while Michael Haynes collected a pair of singles the big blow came off the bat of Travis Clark with a grand slam to extend Edinburg's lead to 11-0.
RGV answered with three runs in the bottom of the third. Paul Montalbano started off the three run inning scoring on a RBI triple from Roberto Ramirez.
Ramirez later scored on a Goose Kallunki sacrifice fly. The third run came on an RBI single from Thomas Shull scoring Albert Carpen cutting into the lead making it 11-3.
Edinburg tacked on two more runs in route to a 13-4 hit parade to take game one of the four game series.
The Roadrunners out hit the Wings 16 to 7 the bats of Tim Battle, Coury and Clark hit for a combined eight hits. Clark finished the night going 3-for-6 with five RBI's along with a grand slam.
The series continues Monday at Harlingen field with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
