
UHL announces weekly honors

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Monday that Fort Wayne Komets right wing David Hukalo has been named Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week and Kalamazoo Wings goaltender Ryan Nie has been named Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, April 1st, 2007.
Hukalo completed the week with six points (3g, 3a), 15 penalty minutes and a plus-4 rating in three games played. He recorded three points in back-to-back games while helping the Komets to a 3-0-0 week. On Wednesday in Flint, he tallied three assists in a 6-2 victory. On Saturday against the Generals, he tallied his first hat trick of the season. He scored once in the first period and two times in the third, including the game-winner, to lift Fort Wayne to a 6-4 win. It is the first weekly honor this season for the 28-year-old native of Edmonton, Alberta. Hukalo has scored 32 points (16g, 16a) for the Komets this season and ranks third on the team with a plus-19 rating.
Other players nominated for the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week include: Bloomington forward Jon Booras, Chicago forward Todd Grant, Elmira left wing Mike Oliveira, Flint right wing Bogdan Rudenko, Kalamazoo center Kory Karlander, Muskegon right wing Kevin Cooper, Port Huron center Greg Bullock, Quad City forward Chad Woollard and Rockford center Preston Mizzi.
Nie finished the week with a 2-0-0 record, a 1.00 goals against average (GAA) and a .964 save percentage (.SPCT). Recording back-to-back road wins last week, he only allowed one goal in both victories. On Saturday, he stopped 27 shots in a 2-1 win over the Muskegon Fury. He made 26 saves to beat Port Huron the following day in another 2-1 victory. It is the second weekly honor of the season for the 21-year-old native of Nanticoke, Ontario. He has recorded wins in five consecutive starts, and he leads the league with a 1.95 GAA and a .932 SPCT in 33 appearances this season.
Other goaltenders nominated for the Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week include: Chicago's Marty Magers, Elmira's Zach Sikich, Flint's Jason Muzzatti, Fort Wayne's Kevin St. Pierre, Muskegon's Clayton Pool, Port Huron's Noah Ruden, Quad City's Jason Tapp and Rockford's Frederic Cloutier.
