Guelph Storm News Release
Congratulations to Eric Uba and Matt Poitras on being named finalists for this year's league education awards. Both had phenominal years in the classroom and were able to flourish during a challenging time.
Uba was our nominee for the Roger Neilson Academic Award as he has proven to be a very consistent and dedicated learner. Excelling in the classroom amid a year filled with a great deal of uncertainty and new learning models, he pursued his academics relentlessly while also ensuring he was prepared to return to the ice at any moment. He not only completed six university courses, but he excelled earning an 85.8% overall average. Unable to play his OA season in Guelph due to COVID, Uba will attend McGill University and play for the McGill Redbirds next year.
Poitras, our Ivan Tennant nominee, showed incredible resilience and determination throughout the past year carrying the most demanding course load as a grade 11 student as well as taking a grade 12 university prep English course. He finished with an incredible 94.3% average all the while continuing to build his hockey skills ensuring he was ready to hit the ice fully prepared for the demands of the OHL when the time came.
Incredible academic accomplishments by both players. Congratulations once again to our finalists!
