Niagara IceDogs News Release
Niagara, ON - Niagara IceDogs General Manager Joey Burke is proud to announce that 2021 OHL Priority Selection 39th overall pick Declan Waddick has signed a Standard Player Agreement, committing to the team. The 5'10" centreman played the 2019-20 season with the Alliance's Sun County Panthers AAA and was committed to playing with the Waterloo Wolves AAA in 2020-21.
Considered one of the premier goal scorers in the Alliance, Lakeshore, ON-born Waddick posted 32 goals and 24 assists in 30 games in his U15 season. He has been highly regarded for his hockey IQ, speed, stickhandling and playmaking skills. Waddick is also known for his work ethic and high complete level.
GM Burke announced the signing earlier today, saying "This is a very exciting signing for us. Declan is a player we have had an interest in for a long time and really is a premier player in the 2005-born age group. We couldn't have been more excited to draft him in the second round.
"We were shocked and thrilled when he got to us [at 39th overall], and that excitement is even more so now that we have made his commitment official! Declan plays a style very conducive to the way Billy and our staff run our program. He will fit it and succeed right away.
"We couldn't be more excited to officially add Declan to the IceDogs today. Our future is very bright!
"I'm really excited to be an IceDog. Niagara was a team I was really hoping to be selected to. They have been so good to me throughout this whole process," added Waddick. "I can't wait to get started and play for the fans!"
Fans can look forward to watching Declan the next time the team hits the ice.
