NEW HAVEN, Conn. - A power-play goal from Danny Kristo (Eden Prairie, Minn.) at the 17:36 mark of the first period proved to be the game-winning goal, as the U.S. National Under-18 Team earned a 2-1 victory over Yale University in front of 2,240 fans at Ingalls Rink Saturday night. Joe Cannata (Wakefield, Mass.) turned aside 23 of the 24 shots he faced for Team USA, and pushed his season record to 5-6-1.

The Bulldogs held an early 1-0 lead after Matthew Thomey scored just 4:30 into the game.

Team USA responded at the 15:28 mark of the period when Patrick Gaul (Pittsburgh, Pa.) netted his fifth goal of the year. Gaul beat Yale netminder Alec Richards on the blocker side with a backhander after he followed up a blocked shot by Nick Pryor (Woodbury, Minn.).

Kristo put Team USA ahead for good with his second power-play marker of the season off an assist from Sam Lofquist (Faribault, Minn.). Kristo carried the puck from his own zone and made a move towards the front of the net. From there, he directed the puck on net, where it bounced off a Bulldog defensemen into the back of the net.

The Bulldogs had a chance to tie the game up when they were given a 5x3 power play with less that five minutes left in the third period. Cannata and his teammates not only foiled that power play, but they dodged a perennial bullet with 48 seconds left in regulation when Broc Little unsuccessfully attempted a penalty shot.

Alec Richards made 15 saves in 33:48 of action, while Ryan Rondeau stopped seven shots in 24:52 of work for the Bulldogs.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team (10-10-1-1) heads to Amherst, Mass., tomorrow night for a game against the UMass Minutemen at the William D. Mullins Center. Opening faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
