U-18s roll past Toledo, 13-0

ANN ARBOR, MICH. –The U.S. National Under-18 Team won in it's last home game of the season Friday night (March 18), 13-0, in a contest against the Toledo Ice Diggers. Toledo was held scoreless in the match.

The U-18s set the tone early, just :20 seconds in on a Nathan Gerbe (Oxford, Mich.) tally. With 3:47 left in the first period, Peter Mueller (Bloomington, Minn.) scored, sending both teams to the locker room with a 2-0, U.S. lead.

The second period saw more of the same from the Under-18s. Second period goals came from Jason Lawrence (Saugus, Mass.), Peter Mueller (3), Phil Kessel (Madison, Wis.), Justin Mercier (Erie, Penn.), Jack Johnson (Faribault, Minn.), and Ryan Stoa (Bloomington, Minn.). The Under-18s notched eight goals in period two for a 10-0 lead going into the final period of play.

At the 8:11 mark of period three, Jack Johnson would score his second goal of the evening. Just :47 seconds later, Phil Kessel would add his second tally on the power play before Jack Johnson completed the hat-trick and U.S. scoring at 11:23of the third.

Leading all scorers on the evening was Jack Johnson with seven points (2G, 1PPG, 4A). Peter Mueller added six points (3G, 1PPG, 2A). Phil Kessel had four points in the contest (2PPG, 2A), as did Ryan Stoa (1G, 3A). Jason Lawrence tallied three points (1G, 2A) while Zach MacVoy (Livonia, Mich.) and Danny Fardig (Ann Arbor, Mich.) each attained two points (2A) in the 13-0 win.

U.S. goaltender Jeff Frazee (Burnsville, Minn.) faced 18 shots, stopping 18.
