 Biloxi Shuckers News Release
BILOXI, MS - Despite a three-hit day from Tyler Black, and five strong innings from Justin Jarvis, the Biloxi Shuckers fell to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, 4-2, to split their series at MGM Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Shuckers started the scoring in the first inning with a two-run home run from Black, part of the first three-hit day by a Shucker in 2023. Black ends the series tied with Zavier Warren for the team lead in average at .286. After the inning, Pensacola pitching held the Shuckers offense at bay with eight shutout innings despite six hits.
In the third inning, Pensacola scored two off a single from Paul McIntosh and a double from Troy Johnston. The Blue Wahoos looked to take the lead, but a timely relay from right nabbed Victor Mesa Jr. at the plate to keep the game tied at two.
The Blue Wahoos took the lead in the fifth off a solo shot from Nasim Nuñez, his first of the year. They tacked on their final run off a sacrifice fly from Will Banfield in the sixth to take a 4-2 lead.
Abner Uribe and Harold Chirino both held Pensacola scoreless over the final two innings with three strikeouts.
Josan Méndez (2-0) earned his second win of the year while Jarvis (0-1) took the loss. Sean Reynolds notched his first save of the year after two perfect innings with three strikeouts to end the game.
The Shuckers are set to travel to Madison, Alabama to take on the Rocket City Trash Pandas for the first game of a six-game series starting on Tuesday night. The Shuckers return to MGM Park for a six-game series with the Mississippi Braves on Tuesday, April 25.
