Tacoma Rainiers News Release
TACOMA, Wash. -- Ty Kelly's go-ahead home run in the sixth inning powered the Tacoma Rainiers to a 5-4 victory over the Las Vegas 51s at Cheney Stadium on Thursday night.
Tacoma trailed 3-1 through five innings before taking the lead for good with four runs on four hits in the sixth. Shortstop Nick Franklin brought the Rainiers within a run after hitting an RBI double that scored Abraham Almonte. Three batters later, Kelly blasted a three-run home run - his 14th of the season - that put Tacoma on top for good.
The Rainiers combined to collect a total of seven hits in their season finale with the 51s. Almonte led the way with a 3-for-4 effort that included a pair of doubles. Franklin also doubled twice, the first of which plated Almonte and tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning.
Starter Jordan Pries (7-6) picked up his team-leading seventh win of the season after holding Las Vegas to three runs - one earned - on four hits in 7.0 innings of work. The right-hander struck out five and walked three in his 18th turn in the Rainiers rotation.
Reliever Lucas Luetge fanned two over a perfect inning in the eighth, and right-hander Todd Coffey collected his fifth save after allowing one unearned run on one hit in the ninth.
The Rainiers (52-53) begin the second leg of the team's current homestand when they welcome Sacramento (59-48) for a five-game series beginning tomorrow, July 25. Right-hander Matt Palmer (1-8, 5.50) is slated to start for Tacoma in the opener against River Cats right-hander Arnold Leon (9-4, 4.62). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
