COLORADO SPRINGS, Col. - The Round Rock Express (53-51) ambushed the Colorado Spring Sky Sox (44-61) in Friday's series opener, pounding out 16 hits en route to a 12-4 victory at Security Service Field.

All nine E-Train starters recorded hits in Friday's convincing win, with seven turning in two-hit games. RF Jared Hoying and C Brett Nicholas led the charge with a home run and three RBI each, while CF Ryan Strausborger reached base three times and clubbed his first long ball of the season.

Round Rock pounced on Sky Sox starter RHP Brett Tomko (6-6, 4.85 ERA) in the first inning Friday, touching the E-Train alum for five runs to take a commanding lead right out of the gate. Luis Sardinas led off the game by extending his hitting streak to seven straight, stole second base and scored on a one-out single by LF Michael Choice to put his club in front. Thursday night's hero DH Carlos Pena then advanced Choice to third with a base hit up the middle to set up a sacrifice fly by 3B Ryan Rua. The Express then flexed some muscle as Hoying and Strausborger cranked back-to-back home runs, staking Round Rock to a 5-0 advantage.

The Sky Sox got a run back in the third on a sacrifice fly by RF Matt McBride to cut into the E-Train lead only to see their deficit grow in the fourth. Strausborger ripped a lead-off double to center ahead of Nicholas, who clobbered his eighth homer of the season over the right field wall to put the Express up 7-1.

Colorado Springs battled back in the fifth, scoring three runs to cut Round Rock's lead. 1B Kyle Parker, DH Ryan Wheeler and SS Cristhian Adames all delivered two-out RBI in the inning to halve their deficit at 7-4.

The Express, however, added five more runs over the final two frames to put the game away. In the eighth, Nicholas plated Rua for his third RBI of the night. Round Rock then erupted in the ninth as Choice, Pena, Rua and Hoying all came up with two-out RBI, the latter thee on doubles, to bring the final score to 12-4.

Round Rock starter RHP Phil Irwin (5-1, 3.05 ERA) picked up the win despite having a less than desirable performance on the mound. In five innings of work, the right-hander allowed four runs on 11 hits, while striking out six and walking none.

The Express and Sky Sox will give a nod to Hall of Famer Ernie Banks Saturday as they play two seven-inning contests to make up their game from April 14 that was postponed due to inclement weather. RHP Luke Jackson (0-0, 8.22 ERA) is scheduled to start the first game for Round Rock against Colorado Springs RHP Jair Jurrjens (0-1, 1.50 ERA). LHP Edwar Cabrera (0-0, 0.00), who was promoted from Double-A Frisco on Thursday, will take the ball for the E-Train in game two, while the Sky Sox have yet to announce their starter.

The doubleheader is slated to begin at 5:05 p.m. CDT with the second game beginning approximately 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first contest.
