Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
The Sky Sox (44-60) couldn't pick up the series split as they dropped Thursday's contest, 4-2, to the Nashville Sounds (56-50) in the series finale at Greer Stadium.
The Sounds jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first frame off LHP Pedro Hernandez (6-6) thanks to a two-run single from Caleb Gindl.
The Sky Sox cut the lead in half in the third inning when Rafael Ynoa, Cristhian Adames and Kyle Parker hit consecutive singles giving Parker his 49th RBI of the year.
In the fifth, however, Hernandez walked in a run after loading the bases and was relieved by RHP Leuris Gomez, who gave up one more run on a wild pitch before striking out Hector Gomez to get out of the inning.
The Sox scored one more when Matt McBride singled home Adames, who doubled with one out in the eighth.
Most of the Sky Sox' production came from the 1-4 hitters (Ynoa, Adames, Parker and McBride), who went 7-for-15 with two RBI, while the rest of the lineup went 1-for-18 with seven strikeouts. Ynoa, Adames and Parker each collected two hits.
RHP Mike Fiers (8-5) got the win for the Sounds after tossing five and two-third innings, allowing just one runs on five hits, while striking out seven batters.
The Sky Sox got some quality innings from their bullpen, including two shutout innings from Nicasio, who allowed just one hit with three strikeouts.
The Sky Sox will return home on Friday when they begin an eight-game homestand starting with a four-game set against Round Rock. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. (MT) with RHP Brett Tomko (2-2, 5.29 ERA) facing off against RHP Phil Irwin (4-1, 2.52).
