Two Spitfires and a Priority Selection Draftee on NHL Draft Preliminary Watchlist
Forward Wyatt Johnston and Import Draft Defenceman Daniil Sobolev have both been given B ratings in the NHL Draft's Preliminary Players to Watch List. Further, Ethan Straky a Spitfires 2019 Priority Selection draftee who is part of the USA U-18 team who plans on playing at NDU, is ranked a C rated prospect. This list comprises a compilation of top prospects from all the major development leagues throughout North America and Europe. It will be updated through the season as scouts evaluate the players.
"It's really nice to be recognized, but it doesn't mean much," said Johnston, who was given a B rating that projects him to go in the second or third round of the 2021 NHL Draft. "I still have a full season to play and lots of time."
Russian defenceman Daniil Sobolev has yet to set foot in Windsor after being taken in the first round of the Canadian Hockey League Import Draft, but he also received a B rating.
"We were high on Daniil and obviously some NHL scouts were as well for him to get this ranking," said Spitfires' general manager Bill Bowler, who made the 6-foot, 198-pound Sobolev the 32nd pick overall in the June import draft. "We were fortunate to get a B-rated player where we did."
