Two Riders get All-Star honors
August 5, 2005 - United Indoor Football Association (UIF)
Peoria Rough Riders News Release
The Rough Riders are pleased to announce that wide receiver Jon Schoonover and linebacker Jason VanLoo both were named to the United Indoor Football All-Star Team. Both VanLoo and Schoonover were named to the second team at their respective positions.
VanLoo put on quite a showing to earn his spot as an All-Star when you take into consideration that he did not join the Rough Riders until the fifth game of the season. Overcoming his late start Jason finished the year second in the UIF in sacks with 13. On the season he had 17.5 tackles for a lose and 78.5 total tackles playing in 11 games. Jason showed his versatility by splitting his playing time between defensive line and his natural spot as a linebacker.
The player most will probably remember from this season Jon Schoonover came up big time after time despite his physical size. The 5'10" 180lbs. receiver led the Riders with 66 catches for 830 total yards and 13 touchdowns. Those numbers place him in the top 5 of the UIF in nearly every receiving category, averaging 12.6 yards per catch and 59.3 yards per game on the season.
The first ever United Indoor Football Championship will be held the weekend of August 13. For all team rosters, statistics, scores, highlights and more log onto www.unitedindoorfootball.com.
