Modesto Nuts News Release
Modesto, CA. - A couple of shots supported Austin Hutchison in the best start of his career to help lead the Modesto Nuts to a 4-2 win of the Stockton Ports on Wednesday night at John Thurman Field.
Hutchison (W, 2-3) retired the first eleven he faced before a two-out single in the fourth inning. After he issued a two-out walk, the Nuts (48-68; 18-28) starter retired another eight in a row.
Through his first eight innings, Hutchison allowed just two singles with seven strikeouts and one walk. He was allowed to start the ninth but surrendered two bloop, ground-rule doubles to knock him out of the game with one on, one in, and one out.
Jeffeson Medina (S, 1/5) entered and allowed a RBI double before nailing down the Nuts second straight win.
Hutchison worked a career-best 8 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts which was one shy of his career high.
Evan White, for the second straight night, went deep in the third inning against Ports (65-51; 21-25) starter Evan Manarino. In the fifth, Beau Branton led the inning off with a single, one of his three hits. Kevin Santa walked before Anthony Jimenez left the yard with a three-run homer to left.
Manarino lasted 4 1/3 innings with six hits and four runs while striking out three and walking three.
The Nuts look for a sweep of the Ports starting on Thursday night. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 6:50 p.m. Listen live online on your phone, tablet or PC.
