Two Players Called up for International Duty
January 6, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
New York City FC News Release
New York City FC is pleased to confirm Sean Johnson and Alex Callens have received international callups.
United States Men's National Team Head Coach Gregg Berhalter has selected Johnson as part of his January training camp.
The shot-stopper was a consistent part of Berhalter's plans in 2021 and was part of the Gold Cup winning roster this past summer.
The USMNT is currently preparing for World Cup Qualifiers against El Salvador, Canada, and Honduras starting later this month with a place in Qatar later this year still up for grabs.
Meanwhile, his teammate Alex Callens has kept his place as part of Ricardo Gareca's squad, and will now jet out for a pair of friendly games against Panama and Jamaica on January 16 and 20 respectively.
Callens was a mainstay for his country in 2021, helping Peru reach the semi-finals of Copa America while also keeping their hopes of a World Cup appearance alive.
The pair will jet out this week to link up with their respective national teams, and everyone at the Club would like to wish them well and congratulate them on being selected.
